Mary Preus (rhymes with Rolls Royce) was born in Tacoma, Washington, the City of Destiny. She grew up in a small town reading books about faraway places, and read many more books while earning an English Literature degree from the University of Washington. Then, eager for adventure, she worked for an airline and began traveling. She lived in a Tibetan Center in Scotland, where her fascination with paisley and herb gardening took root, then backpacked overland to India and beyond. Back on the shores of Puget Sound, she lived and breathed herbs while owning and operating Silver Bay Herb Farm for nearly twenty years. Her published books include “The Northwest Herb Lover’s Handbook,” “Growing Herbs,” “A Little Book of Herbs for Cooking,” and “The Leek Cookbook.” To continue expanding her horizons, she embarked on writing what she hopes will be her first published novel.
